Instead of hightailing it out of Kansas, we stopped at the Prairie Museum in Colby, and it was great. In addition to the kids being able to ride the vintage coin-operated horse, we were able to go into the late 19th century sod house and touch the household items like a very heavy iron and the waffle iron, and the one-room schoolhouse where teacher Sophie gave a lesson.
