At the end of the day he did have nice clean clothes.

It was very funny how when we told people we were going to Poland they looked at us strangely, why would you want to go there they would ask ( this was mainly Latvians).
This is a beautiful place to visit, people nice, great history, amazing architecture and Marks favourite, Bars in Laundromats, it does make sense I suppose.

... tour so that was an added bonus. He also showed us where the Jewish quarter of the city was and gave us a little tour of the royal cathedral by the palace.

The rest of the weekend we toured Krakow on our own, including going to a huge salt mine complete with a salt cathedral! Very cool. We also got to experience some nice city life, even though the weather did not cooperate. Overall it was a very memorable trip.

The prison blocks at Birkenau housed thousands of workers whose job it was to sort belongings, dispose of bodies and ashes. They themselves only lasted a few months because of the atrocious conditions and mal-nutrition. Prisoners also worked in nearby factories where the industrialists had contracts with the Nazis for a contant and renewable supply of strong workers.
