    ... with a bucket of frites each and watched people go past. There were loads of horses pulling carts around; it seemed to be the Brugge form of taxi they were really popular. Of course, most of the population rode bikes, and rode them extremely well. We saw loads of people riding with food or coffee in one hand, and their phone in their other hand.     Our visit to Tyne Cot was a sobering moment. So many graves, many simply marked 'British Soldier' or 'German Officer'. The cemetery is immaculate, with thousands of flowers growing between the graves. My grandfather was gassed in this war. What a waste of lives the whole thing was.

    ... Museum, the Tyne Cot Cemetery and the Menin Gate.

    One of the most moving experiences was watching six musicians, each with a bugle, play the ‘Last Post’ at the Menin Gate. The Belgium people put on this small ceremony at 8.00pm every evening. The road through the centre of the memorial is closed off, and a hymn is sung. The bugle players are dressed in uniform, and army representatives lay a wreath.
