This morning was an early start (6 AM) to catch the TGV train to Geneva. We had to take the metro to Paris Lyon, where we bought lunch for on the train, and then caught it to Switzerland. It was a bit slower than the Eurostar and took around 4:30. Otherwise it all went smoothly though. Once in Geneva, we caught the tram to CERN, the end of the line, and were slowly transferred ...

... waiters, market venders, signage, everyone. All three of us took French in high school, many, many long years ago. Between us, we were able to figure out most of what we needed to get around and read the menus. After a really pleasant morning in Lyon, we set out on our drive to Lamoura. However . . . the car's navigation went bonkers so we ended up winging it for much of the way. I think that she had problems finding enough satelites. Maybe something to do the mountains?? We call the sat nav Maj. Jo decided early on that her voice had a somewhat pompous air - almost regal, we thought(!). We tried a few names out but the one that stuck was Maj. ...

After a 9.5 hour flight to Frankfurt, a long bus ride at the airport to the next plane, and a short 50 minute flight, we are in Geneva. Figured out how to take a bus to the hotel, overpaid, arrived and finally got our room. Slight problem with our reservation - they had us down for 2 people only. Kids will have to sleep outside in the rain ;-) --- Went downtown and joined a festival... Walked around, ate drank, got wet, and enjoyed the fireworks... Everyone is beat... Off to ...

    ... cities.

After lunch we walked farther up into the old city so I could shoot some video and take photos for future use.

Then we walked back down to the lake and took the electric tourist train along the left bank to see the shore and the famous jet d’eau, the giant fountain which is the iconic symbol of Geneva. Set where the Rhone River flows out of Lake Geneva, a submerged pumping system shoots 500 litres (132 gallons) of water per ...
