Animal Sancturies in Nairobi

... we had these balls of fluff in our hands, albeit balls of fluff almost the size of a cat. I can see why the adults are so quiet if they get this much handling from such a young age.

The rest of the animal orphanage was very much like a zoo and the animals were in pretty small cages. Not nice to see after being out on Safari so much and seeing them in their natural environments.

We then headed back to the camp to relax for the rest of the day and watch a bit ...

Goodbyes

... we are going to cook french toast for Kilonzi, Margaret, and Maggie for breakfast before we leave, and then we are on our way back to the Silver Springs Hotel to start our tour Sunday morning.

I hope everyone keeps following on my next adventure! Keep posting comments!!

Mom- call me please tomorrow. I would like to talk to you before we leave on our tour because I am not sure if Den's cell will work out in the deserts and jungles of Africa!

Conquering Fears: The Masai Market

... outdoor market... a lot of the same things sprawled out on blankets, people hassling you, etc. Some guy wanted me to trade my jacket for a coaster. Noppers. Overall, the visit to the market was a success, and Frank managed not to completely destroy our time with his fellow Masais. Some souvenirs were bought, and we got to get out of the house for an entire day which was nice!

Last night we got home and ate dinner with ...

... started kicking the ball around, others soon joined in. I then met Patrick’s brother who was 2 years older and seemed to speak better English. Once we met, those two boys and another one started calling me "Transporter." I knew why they were because of the movie with the English guy Jason Statham in it. I guess my 5 o’clock shadow and face looked similar. Then I took off my ball cap and showed them my short balding hair ...

How are you?

... and painting the new toilet blocks as well as helping the teacher in class. I volunteered to help in class, but then found out the teacher had to go back to her village for the week so was promoted to lone teacher. Apparantly the other teachers could hear me 'asking' the kids to be quiet from the other end of the school. It's been fun though and we've got by - even took a science class and managed to do an ...

KENYA AND UGANDA: THE GREAT MOUNTAIN GORILLAS

... for those East African roads.

We left Nairobi early in the morning and drove through some appalling slums and later some beautiful country. Our guide’s name was John. He was Kenyan and very passionate about his country and nature. On the drive to the Masi Mara we asked him many questions, including how could there be so much poverty and people just sitting around everywhere. John’s answer was shocking to us. He used a gas station as ...

Ready to see some Rhino's...*hick*?

... consolation I have is that I was going to tip the guy from the hotel 200 so I figure I only lost 50 which is around a buck. Well as long as I learn no harn done. Now I am off to Jinja in Uganda which is around a 9 hour bus ride leaving Nakuru at 10 tonight so I should arrive around 7. Still trying to find a way to get to the bus station but I'll figure a way... I prefer to pay a motor bike because it's cheaper but I'll see if it's safe at that time. Till Uganda take care :)

The farm

... worry. Then…the bikes. 3, 15-year-old boys, motorbikes and 1 kilometre of airstrip. In what started as a drag race then quickly turned into a race around the farm. I was coming first but only because I had a 50m head. Then in the first 30 seconds, I was already being passed by two other kids, who were taunting me with lots of rude and unsavoury hand gestures (that I would never use). Finally reaching the end of the airstrip at about 120km/h and falling of the back of the ...

Day 218 219 - Kenya, Nairobi - Camping in Rain

... SA play Israel in the world cup qualifier. Oliver and co are on cook club tonight but with rain pouring down and football on dinner keeps getting pushed further and further back. Totally understandable, although I'm STARVING! Oliver ended up drinking with the lads and getting called aside again by Jay going "it's happened again, some people really shouldn't drink" referring to some tosser on the truck who has once again complained about ...

... like street children. Younger children always wear torn up clothes and do not even have a ball to play with etc. The insufficient amount of money that officers sent for the month of April, came in late. There were days when there was no money to feed the kids. When the Director asked for monthly funds, first an officer made various excuses, including asking for all the sponsor letters when all have already been sent and stating that her month starts on the ...
