... of Bangkok, a city filled with ancient temples and monks, but also a hedonistic and lawless city at night. We started Bangkok in the tamest way possible, by visiting a park. Our hostel is in Silom which is a business district by day (by night it's something else altogether but we'll slowly get there). Right near Silom is Lumphini park, which was a delightful park. We saw a dozen monitor lizards, a large outdoor aerobics class, peaceful fountains and paddle ...

Up pretty early and feeling refreshed after our sleep. A little bit of planning today first to see what we were going to do for the next couple of days then across the road to a restaurant for our free breakfast. ... taking pictures of us, insisting that it would be for free... What a genuinely nice guy, we all thought! He then, out of pure kindness, offered to take us around his tuk-tuk to the main attractions in Bangkok, from the tall Buddha temple to the leaning Buddha's, finishing with a gentle boat ride on the river to see the floating market for a fee he deemed acceptable. I cut him off half way his speech saying we wanted to see the Grand Palace and that we would visit ...

Chatachuk Marketplace

... selling organic soaps, lotions and oils with scents out of this world. Several hours later we were still walking up and down the aisles, inspecting things. I took many pictures of the different booths and some of the people selling items, always asking their permission, of course. At one point we saw that a crowd was gathering on the street and we heard music. A little boy, long-haired, was playing the guitar, providing percussion via feet pedals that corresponded to a few drums, ...
