We were on the 6.40am flight from Napier down to Queenstown and had to drop off the car at the airport first. We had set the alarm for 5.00am but Jayne (always unable to sleep when she has to get up early) was up at 4.30am and we were on our way to the airport at 5.10am. We woke up to low cloud shrouding the mountains and decided to drive to Glenorchy at the north western end of the lake (about 45km). The scenery was so similar to Scotland - lots of purple hues. We had in mind going trekking We came across the stables just as they were preparing to leave on a trek and enquired if we could join them but unfortunately they had no free spaces. We telephoned some stables in the morning as we were still wanting to try a trek. Again the clouds loomed so instead we drove to Arrowtown and enroute stopped off at the Shotover Jet to see what all the fuss is about - basically a speed boat on a river - so gave that a miss as well - another $200 saved.
