We were on the 6.40am flight from Napier down to Queenstown and had to drop off the car at the airport first. We had set the alarm for 5.00am but Jayne (always unable to sleep when she has to get up early) was up at 4.30am and we were on our way to the airport at 5.10am. At 5.30am, we had dropped the car off (only 100m from the door of this small local airport) and were waiting for someone to arrive to open the airport!! We were first through the doors when they opened at 5.45 and first in t...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand steve_and_jayneWe woke up to low cloud shrouding the mountains and decided to drive to Glenorchy at the north western end of the lake (about 45km). The scenery was so similar to Scotland - lots of purple hues. We had in mind going trekking We came across the stables just as they were preparing to leave on a trek and enquired if we could join them but unfortunately they had no free spaces. After driving a little further into the country, we returned to Glenorchy - a tiny lakeside village with a couple of pu...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand steve_and_jayneWe telephoned some stables in the morning as we were still wanting to try a trek. Again the clouds loomed so instead we drove to Arrowtown and enroute stopped off at the Shotover Jet to see what all the fuss is about - basically a speed boat on a river - so gave that a miss as well - another $200 saved. Arrowtown was interesting - an old mining town which they are still in the process of conserving. Jayne brought a jade Tiki man -something she had been looking for since arriving in NZ. Tiki ...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand steve_and_jayneA summary of our week since leaving the retreat...
Well the stars came out over Lake Tekapo and it was a fantastic sight. We couldn't believe how bright and clear they were. It was like seeing a big dot to dot picture in the sky. Max saw two shooting stars within minutes of each other. Having been up in the night star gazing we were dozy the next day so decided to relax - we did this in the natural, hot water springs just five minutes from ...
... and apparently "bramble leaf" but not something I recognise).
2008 Cornish Point Vineyard Pinot Noir – Very famous vineyard in Otago, possibly the first place grapes were planted. Dark fruit, violets and cinnamon nose. Spicy fruit with a dark chocolate finish. Long.
Mount Difficulty – The road to Mount Difficulty’s restaurant and cellar door rises very steeply from Felton Road and gives a good view over ...
... sea lion in Cannibal bay later that day, so that more than made up for it as we really got up close to it for about 10 minutes.
We then set off to one of the southernmost points called Bluff! Great name for a wacky town. The reason we headed down here was because the Bluff Oyster festival was on so we thought we would join in on the rainy frolics for a bit of a laugh...and that it was. My lord its like all the hillbillies and inbreds came out for the day. It was ...
Today was the day we'd head on to Queenstown
There are some
absolutely stunning views to be had on the way, just get in to them
quickly as we found every view point that we stopped at became swamped
by massive coaches full of photo happy tour groups within a couple of
minutes.

... while we cook and eat dinner. best get our priorities straight! after which, we'd hoped to look back under the seat to discover them all still in the container, however when coming back to look under the seat, we discover that half of them have actually gone! yes, GONE! mummy mouse has obviously not abandoned her babies, like we'd first thought, and has been back to rescue them from our makeshift nest in an effort to take them elsewhere in the van, where they cannot be disturbed ...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand vickz_2... connected to this family. So, Chris and Janet, the pastors of the church had us all pile in their van, and we went back to their house. Upon arrival, Janet had made potatoes with meat and toppings as well as salad for dinner. Our team asked God earlier today for a home to stay in and a home-cooked meal, and the Lord gave that to us and much more. We not only got to stay with a family, but half of our family from Oxford (the students of our school ...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand erincastillo...
Võib-olla ...
