Les Rambles Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands
Today we moved. It was a painful move because we were just "slightly" hungover and had to be out by noon. Being that we didn't get home until 5 again, it was a tough morning. We are settled in the apartments now where the rest of our class is staying and where we'll stay for a whole week. Today is going to be productive because tomorrow we actually have to go to class at 1030 so we will not be having a three-peat! I repeat, we will not be out until 5, we will not be hungover tomorrow. ...
Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Canary Islands noellemurphyWell for all you blog fans out there, you may have noticed that I have skipped a couple days since my last post. No, I haven't been partying too much, nor have I been studying too much... Internet was down in our apartments for 2 days and my computer still isn't syncing up, although my roommate's is. (WTF???) So, no pictures yet until I can get mine to work. Our hot water was down for a day as well. Get what we pay for I guess.... We are off of Las Ramblas which is the most touristy strip her...

Dinner was at Paniolo, a tapas restaurant. We had a window table, really lovely setting looking out across the Mediterranean Sea. I had tuna tartare and lobster tacos with extra guacamole. Jim had a Mexican soup and sizzling meat and veggies fajitas. Included were margaritas, salsas and assorted garnishes. For dessert I had dulce de leche flan and Jim had an enourmous goblet of icecream with mango preserves. Aaaahhh.
To bed early!
... what appeared to be a chef buying four enormous horseshoe crabs. Also, we learned that you don't touch a thing! If you touch it, they someone will snap at you and you had better plan on buying. The market was so clean and orderly, it was amazing to think that it happens every single day. So far, there have been signs of larger grocery stores, so this is where people must do their daily shopping. A few "fun" things we saw ...

Barcelona, Spain mebecherie... and most renowned boys choirs in Europe. It was founded in the 13th century and crowds have been converging on the Basilica at 1pm each day to hear them sing "Salve Regina" and "Virolai". They were extremely good, but it was ***********centrate as the church was standing room only packed with chatty tourists and wired up school groups. The final attraction that Montserrat is famous for is the view. We took a funicular (cog train) up to the ...
Barcelona, Spain meganandkevin... extended period of time. Now, I have done it and it was everything I knew it would be and more. Barcelona being my surrogate home for a while, I feel as if I know the city fairly well. I feel as a local in that I know places to go as well as where to stay away from. At the same time, as it is with anywhere, the longer I have stayed and the more people I´ve met and places I´ve gone, the more and more knowledge of the city I uncover that makes me ...
Barcelona, Spain jtpharr... so large and unconventional and literally surprising to someone who has never seen it. Unlike Notre Dame or Chatres, which, due to the symmetry of the construction, your mind subconsciously- or at least mine does- fills in, you have to make a pointed effort to look at every part of the facade. Each square foot is different from the last, and it makes for an interesting building. I would like to say that it was beautiful, and it was in a ...
Barcelona, Spain europatimeWe made it to Barcelona! We quickly went to claim our luggage but there wasn't any! None of our bags, and I'm talking 7 bags, made it to Spain. Four women...no luggage?! We're talking hysteria! We quickly made a claim for lost bags and got on the bus provided by the cruise line to take us to the ship. By now we had under an hour to make the 7pm sail time.
