Still hot

... We ate dinner in the comfort food cafe and had grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup. It was really yummie!

Today we are in MAUI and we are doing nothing! Had breakfast, took a walk and took a little nap. Didn't even get off the ship ...we are really boring!

Guess that does it for the day!

... to be a few locals with their surf boards and they were riding the waves as they got bigger and bigger during high tide. There must have been 25 people on the beach at the most. We spent several peaceful hours here before heading back to the Westin for the evening.

Hana is supposed to be one of the most "authentic" places on Maui. Truthfully, I found Maui more of a tourist trap that anything but that’s solely my ...

... Now that our kids are bigger (16 and 15) they did complain a bit about the legroom in the back, so that is something to keep in mind if you are considering renting a convertible, along with the limited luggage space. They also get a fair bit of wind in the backseat, even with the windows up. That was less of a problem that the last time we rented one to drive from LA to ...

... coast faces west, so sunset view guaranteed every night. Saturday is warm, but grey and rainy, so a good time to catch up with uploading the photographs and the blogs. And hunting around looking for wireless internet - we sit in a Starbucks for a while - in the land of Kona coffee, charbucks tastes just as burnt as usual, but they do offer a mocha coconut frappuccino (available in Hawaii only). And Quantum of Solace is playing in Kihei's theatre...

... too chunky. Pacific O - DECENT Beautiful restaurant dining on the beach front. The atmosphere and service was great. The fish is fresh catch prepared about 6 different ways. Ric had the basil tomato prep and I did the wana (sea urchin whipped cream). It was just ok. My complaint about these fancy shmancy Hawaiian restaurants (other than Alan Wong's and Roy ...

Hawaii (Honolulu and Maui)

... in a condo in a very nice location. Thanks to my Aunt Carol for arranging this contact, as we paid about a third of what most people do to stay in such a nice area in Maui. The best part of Maui was driving the coast to Hana. The total drive is only about 100km but it takes about 4 hours because the speed limit goes down to 15 and even 10km per hour as the roads are so twisty and curvy it is very hard to drive. However, it was probably the ...

... the bathrooms. No problem! We also stopped at Ho'opika (or something like that), a world-famous surfing and wind-surfing location. From a cliff top lookout, we watched 35 surfers (we counted) catching the waves. Our next stop was the Queen Ku'umaana Mall. If I remember correctly, this Queen was one of the wives of King Kamehameha and became a Christian when the missionaries arrived. Her example encouraged other Hawaiians to believe, as well. She also ...

... again and headed back to the pool and hot tub. After a bit of lunch, we put on our Shopping Shorts and headed out. We tried a number of shopping plazas and enjoyed the Hilo Hattie shop the most. We'd made a quick stop here the other day and discovered that they give everyone person who comes in the door a free shell necklace. Excellent! We plan to visit a number of times and Hilary expects to amass quite a ...

Whales and Dolphins

... on our way to Olawu. Then, while snorkeling above the coral, we saw some beautiful fishes of every colour you can think of, very social turtles that were taking their breath right next to us. That was an amazing experience to swim among fish that I have seen only in fishbowls;) On our way back, some dolphins came to join us and swam a little bit along the boat. And some flying fish came say good bye. A true unforgettable experience!
