    After three months of walking or driving by, we finally graced the local chateau with our presence. What a delightful surprise! The scaffolding and curtain hiding the repair work had put us off but once inside it has a great stone staircase and rooms of very aesthetic proportions well decorated with several periods of furnishing.     ... staying in a hotel separate from the rest of the group managed to get to dinner, but I am pleased to report I did manage to satisfy my craving for vegetables, although at some cost. Whereas some complete menus could be had for 14 Euros, my "salade vegeterienne" cost a whopping 12Euros 50. At least the restaurant where I ate it offered a ringside seat to the festivities associated with the Flamme de St. Jean.

    ... skoda sat nave took us a detour of 60 miles to travel about 10 miles. Then it took us along the D54 for 12 miles, took us through the toll booths, and back onto the autoroute the other way, back to where we first got on, then back again.
