... which is sad. Driving into Malaga the navigator got lost, again. But we made it in the end to a very standard hotel without any character or atmosphere, we were both disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it is nice, pool, robe slippers etc., but we have been staying in some amazing places and a normal hotel is a bit......blah. We went for a walk to the beach, honestly don't bother ...
... there and then graciously asked for a tip before wondering off in the other direction. There ain't no free lunch! Whatever happened to doing a good deed and not asking for anything but a genuine thank you.
The museum was beautiful. Based in an old palace, we walked through 11 galleries and saw many of the late Picasso's early works and sketches. Picasso was born in Malaga and stayed there until he and his family moved to Barcelona when he was 19. ...
... as a list of potential mutual friends and/or relations are named, to no avail of course. I tell a lie, there is one "hit" an aunt of the fellow passenger worked as Matron at South Tyneside Hospital, and was known to Kathleen from her nursing days..

Rain overnight, but by morning, we are back to blue skies.
... a town centre bar was all there was time for, so we vowed to pull up at the first sensible place on the way back to the coast. Eventually we enjoyed a sandwich and orange juice on a hillside while listening to a very vocal flock of sheep in the fields by the road. Then off we went through the breathtaking scenery on the drive back down: clear blue sky, mountains and rolling hills dotted with small white dwellings against a backdrop ...
... dead in the sun. Even so, the crawl was really fun. They took us to about 6 different bars that all had something different going on. In one, we were serenaded by an older man singing "La Bamba". In another, all the drinks were named after pop culture icons. In the last one, they played all Spanish dance music. It was definitely a good experience, and a good way to meet a few people.
All in all, not a bad first day in Malaga. More to ...
