... and the caves were good. Nadia was our guide for the caves and she was fun and interesting. We were not allowed to take photos in the cave (supposedly because the camera flash might ruin the cave paintings made by the Taino Indians but even non-flash photography is banned so I'm not sure...) After the caves there is an Iguana reserve so we got to see a few of these close up. It seems to be moulting time as they were all shedding their ...

... and said goodbye to the group. Feel sad to leave the group as they have been great and made me feel more than welcome here. I've had a mixed time here, at times it's been difficult to arrange IT lessons with the group and so difficult to find things to keep myself busy, but when I could work with them it was great and they are really enthusiastic and work extremely hard! ... children in the houses. The orphanage would really like for the Rotary to make something happen with this, and we did speak with the director of the vocational school in Consuelo. It is a possibility, but the club will have to come in January or February when the new sewing class starts and plead their case to the new students, to see if they will be willing to volunteer their time outside of class hours...so we are on hold with this at the moment. The last thing ...

      Schools update

A travel blog entry by hmaclean on Oct 20, 2008

So I've been here for a little over a month now, and I figured it might be time to give an update on how things are going in the schools where I am working. I know I mentioned this before, but I still feel it's important to point out how wonderful the students are. Each school has a different feel and a different dynamic, as they are all in different bateyes and are quite separate from one another. However, even with the different dynamics, ...
