Once we came back down, we were in Aspen and it was 1pm so we decided to have a late lunch. Whilst driving around to find parking, Darren glimpsed down a street and saw a bear!! I guess it's not too uncommon to have bears around but by the time we could turn around safely, it was long gone.

... we were above most of the houses so we could get a good view of all of the mountains...not sure the pictures will quite do it justice!

We had lunch back at ours then found a nearby car wash in Edwards as Big Red deserved a good clean after all the miles she's done and also after getting lots of salty soil underneath her....she is now all shiny and clean!

... of plan of silly add-ups on the route and the intolerance of being on speeding routes.

So Theo left few days ago and I try to pile up some energy for the month to come. I will pick my friend Sandy in Chicago and we will go north to Canada before I will stay few days in Montreal to see my friend Wendy and her lovely boys. From them heading back to New York after few hours in Providence.

Aspen reminded me a bit of Banff, cute little ski/snowboard town with lots of hikes in the summer.

Unfortunately, I did not realize how high up Aspen is (2400m above sea level) and once we started our hike at Maroon Bells, I felt quite dizzy and tired. Turns out I must have had some sort of altitude sickness at 3000m above sea level... That happened on our hike in Santa Fe as well.. well, now I know :)

I recovered quickly and finished the hike at least...

... of waterfalls all the way up. No pictures--we were concentrating in the road! On the way back, we took what we thought was a short cut, but it turned out to be a long cut--we did see some new country. We were glad to get back on a paved road! This afternoon we packed everything up & took our last walk here. We're loaded and ready to head out for our next stop tomorrow ...
