I Can See Cuba From My Hotel!

A travel blog entry by roadscholarorg on Apr 23, 2015

... and I've been with Road Scholar for the past year and a half. I've been wanting to go on a program for some time now, but where to go to? India, Jordan, France, Kenya, Ethiopia, Croatia...the list is endless. I was about to give up and throw a dart at a map (which probably would have bounced off) when an opening on a trip to Cuba became available. I jumped into that slot so quickly it probably made the program manager's head spin. She's ...

We have to invest in our home to keep it in good shape just like people who have houses and apartments. To make sure our home is ...

... Cuban pesos have a much lower value than do Cucs. For example, a Cuban doctor, all of whom are government employees, is paid a salary of about 40 Cuban pesos per month. Trading currency on the street carries a legal penalty and a fraud potential. Trade a dollar and get just under one Cuc. Trade that same dollar and get around 24 pesos. But, as a foreigner, you cannot spend Cuban pesos. Foreigners may spend only CuCs. It is all very confusing.

... not so twiggy (and proud of it!) walking around in the tinniest of bikinis, sky high platform shoes, a face full of make-up and the most immaculate hair. I'm pretty sure none of them were going swimming! But it wasn't so much the over the top dressing, it was the men around would shout out 'Give us a pose', the girl would stop and give either a model pose or something far more suggestive, the guy (and anyone around) would snap a few pictures and the ...
