... about 1 hour on the boat. There is residential along the shoreline and half way up the mountain most of the way around the lake, the further we get away from Como although it begins to thin out and clear townships can be seen.
Menaggio is, like all the other towns, a holiday destination and at this time of year most of the places are closed. We find somewhere to have lunch and then spend the afternoon wandering through the alleyways ...

      Not so glamorous Bergamo

Leaving Milano, we started the day with Bergamo which is an ancient town about 40 km east of Milan we've been hearing a lot about. I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just me setting my expectation too high.
The old town (citta alta) is up on the hill and we had to take ...

... skills were really put to the test. Neither of us have international service right now, so that also means we don't have GPS to guide us. Conor had saved directions to his meeting with Lukka before leaving, but the street signs are itty-bitty signs on the corners of buildings - nothing at all like the giant green and white reflector signs we use in the US. By the skin of our teeth we just barely made it to the AC Milan offices. The meeting was a noon, and we turned in front ...

Our first full day at Milan

... Blackberry Vodka, limoncello and a herby drink much like jaggermaster, all this followed by candied fruit dipped in chocolate. A great dinner ! After dinner we walked down the strip where a number of bars had TV screens transmitting the World Cup finals. Italians are passionate about their soccer and even though Italy was not playing on the night, fans were still gathering to enjoy the Germany win over Argentina - most Italian fan were very ...
