... set up, the captain says that the seas have calmed and we're off to the Spiegel Grove a 510-foot retired Navy ship which when first sunk ended up on it's starboard side in 130 feet of water until a hurricane came through and uprighted it.
Once we're onsite we decide to do two dives on the wreck since it's so large and descend to the stern section in 105 feet of water ...
... which was at the start of the drive, to which i said that wasn't in the deal i was just a witness. She said she wasn't aloud on the premises but it was here property, she was very reassuring and wasn't pressurising or anything. Now i was regretting it even more, she said her husband had beaten her so if he saw me with her emptying the postbox what might he do to me! I also thought what if this is all a set up, i get out with my bag in the car and she pulls off and leaves me ...
Key West, Florida, United States edwardallin... I don't think the guy had ever cut a whiteman's hair in his life! Before returning back to the hotel, we visited the southernmost point of Key West and consequently the continent - bit of an anticlimax, but at least we can say we've been!
In the evening we walked up Duval Street, (the main party street) to Mallory Square on the eastern side of the island to witness the sunset celebration there. It really was beautiful. Hundreds of ...
... for me as an early Christmas present and I was so excited. Swimming with dolphins was something which I had always dreamed of doing. We packed up and sadly left our oasis in Islamorada and set off to the centre (en route to Key West where we would be spending two nights).
We arrived at the centre and booked in. Before you go and swim with the dolphins, you take part in a workshop and learn about the history of the place and the work that they do. The centre was originally ...
One of the worst experiences we have ever had the misfortune of having! The room "up-grade" was a room “downgrade” in our book. They gave us a limited view and two queen beds instead of one king size for a couple! We are not Lucy and Ricki Ricardo, we don't sleep in separate beds! We like to sleep together and spread out in comfort! We have stayed here before and have had a room up-grade which was truly a room up-grade. The last time, we had a room with a ...
Key West, Florida, United States travelingtom... This was my 2nd attempt at snorkeling and I was determined to do better despite the waves, knowing the bottom was 10' down, and tucking away the tidbit that we may see jellyfish and sharks. Doh! And I keep hearing my Dad say "You...snorkel? You hated swimming lessons!" So the catamaran took off and sailed around to the east side of Key West out about 12 miles and it was a beautiful day. I donned my life vest, flippers, fitted the mask and sat shivering along the front ...
Key West, Florida, United States j_and_m... the end of earth…very nice!
Key west is another paradise on earth, definitely Mexican gulf is awesome.
It was the place where Hemingway was living and wrote his books, obviously, the landscapes push the spirit to travel. Nice place but very hot during summer, very very hot (I insist).
It’s also possible here to reach a very famous checkpoint: the southerner point in USA and the closest to Cuba: 90 miles ...
... s music floating down the water....awesome. When we got into the Keys, Owen went straight to work and I took the kids to Duval St! We went to the aquarium and took a little walk around. Then, that night is was an awesome time with Covenant Word Church! Owen did a men's breakfast, Saturday while I swam with the kids and than that afternoon we played with the kids and I taught at a Ladies meeting! It was so precious, we focused all weekend long on the cross ...
Key West, Florida, United States tonya0... West for 18 years, moved away (to somewhere he considered cold-Tennessee-I think), then has been back for about 12 years. I ask him about the heat and humidity, considering he was raised in Las Vegas. He tells me that the first summer he was in Key West, working as a roofer, he suffered a heat stroke. He figured he'd be OK because it wasn't as hot as he was use to in Las Vegas. He never realized what the humidity did. He says he's gotten use to it now. That was my day at the End of the NEW World!
Key West, Florida, United States cobra1899... was to come right near the end of our drive back to Homestead. We saw quite a bit of heat/sheet lightning in the sky, but didn't want to put the top up until I suddenly could smell the rain, before even feeling it! We got the top up just in time, as a huge storm blew in with torrential rain and hail. It lasted all of 10 or 15 minutes, but certainly was impressive, for the first rain we'd seen since sometime last year in California!
