28th - 30th May 2008 B - Morning all, we are just getting used to this so bear with us!! Arrived at Gatwick with 3 hours to spare this morning but managed to be late for the flight and had to run for the plane, (no change there then), arrived in Madrid staying at flat 5 (pic above,) which is not to bad. After walking around for 2 hours finding the right metro stations and then the room, we are pulling the rucksacks to bits and discarding anything and everything that we don't need. I am way to...

Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands kciarnie... I'm not a big fan of the style of dress here. But its always fun to see how its different. I ate lunch at TGI Fridays. Yes, I know I can have that in America, but since I was by myself, I figured I'd look less out of place here. I then journeyed over to the Palacio Real, or Royal Palace. I unforetunately wasn't able to tour the building because I became distracted by the garden out in front of it. The garden was very beautiful, especially ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands helio85... Titian, Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Veronese, etc (but no da Vinci or Michelangelo): Spanish - Goya, El Greco, Murillo, Velasquez, etc; Flemish - Rubens, Rembrandt, Bosch, Cranach, Dürer; as well as many French, Dutch, and German artists. The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum had a special exhibition called 1914 The Avant-Garde (who were also known as Futurists)& the Great War - it's hard to imagine now but many artists at the time glorified war as cleansing a corrupt society and volunteered and died ...
Madrid, Spain everardt... to the outside of the buildings to keep the old feeling. The streets are very narrow and can barely fit three people wide at times. It seems like no matter where you're walking in Toledo you are walking up hill. Our feet were killing us by the time we found the Cathedral but it was well worth it. After seeing the Cathedral we walked around the city and ended up in Zocodover square where we sat and watched the people for a while and I got a beer at ...
Madrid, Spain tbassplayer... they do, I picked 6. The Palace was my favourite and I canīt wait to see it....it was stunning looking as we drove past. Anyways, I managed to see the whole city today as I sat on the open topped double decker bus. There was the Historical Madrid part of the tour and the Modern Madrid part. The modern didnīt intrigue me at all so the 6 ...
Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands planetwalker... over the crowds. But at least the middle of the masses was a warmer spot since it blocked most of the wind. We waited in front of Burger King for an excessive amount of time. Katie had stressed for two days about the possibility of squatting on the street since we knew it would be difficult to find a bathroom, so when we saw the line at Burger King, she insisted on waiting. Meredith and Natasha had to go to the bathroom, as well, so I waited outside with our bottles of ...
Madrid, Spain catedoyle... down 3 flights of stairs and then up 3 more at the next hotel was not so much fun (I do love my new white pumps but they hurt me so much!!) and we only just made it to our tour! Even with a hangover the day was heaps of fun and we got to sit on Carrie Bradshaws front stoop!! Super Exciting!! We went out on Wednesday just for a few drinks and again met some lovely people (I swear, everyone in New York is just fantastic!)!! We had another big night on Thursday ...
Madrid, Spain tennilleWe flew from JFK with Iberia, and since Sevillaīs airport is so small there is always a connection in Madrid. So Sweet Briar added a new trip, a 2 day layover in Madrid, which we didnīt have 2 years ago. Itīs an awesome idea because the kids can get over some of the jetlag, get used to the dayīs schedule (lunch at 2 or 3, dinner at 9), and get to know eachother a bit before they make the biggest change, which is moving in with ...
