In the morning we are off to Eureka Springs, by way of Arkansas Scenic Route 7. Looking forward to some great scenery, and maybe a little cave exploration along the way.

I expected today to be quiet and uneventful. Thought I was being clever, and checked the weather in Tuscaloosa and Hot Springs before we left. Both had little or no rain in the forecast for today. So I went ahead and booked us into the Alpine Inn for 2 nights and set out what was expected to be a long but boring journey. What I forgot to check was the weather report for Mississippi ...

... association with the gangsters of late 1800s to mid 1990s. Today you can see the beautiful architecture of the bath houses, two of which are still functioning. We also visited the Mountain Tower where you can see aerial views of the surrounding area.
Hot Springs is a fascinating town where you could spend weeks exploring everything on offer in the area. ...

... beauty. Very pleasing scenery. "Bucolic" came to mind.

Part of the way we travelled on a “Scenic Highway” marked “The Trail of Tears”, in recognition of the route taken by the Cherokee Indians on their forced march from their home in the eastern forests of the North Carolina to the barren western plains of Oklahoma. A low point in American history. But in a sense the road was also a modern day trail of tears.
