Day 53 - Arriving Cairns
... north, landing at 1100. Cairns is a tourist town in Australia famous as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef. There is also rain forests, white water rafting and other adventures in the area. We are here to board our dive boat tomorrow for a 2 night Great Barrier Reef dive experience. We got a taxi into town for R200. It dropped us at our back packers - caravella backpackers. So Cairn's is a little bohemian....
... plants that attached themselves onto a tree to grow but didn’t take anything from the tree, just used it as a base. From Red Peek we made our way to Barron Falls which is a huge waterfall which in peak season flows fiercely but as we are in the dry season was more of a trickle. It is also now a source for the Hydro Electricity plant and there were old tools and history boards showing how they built the dam without disrupting too much of the jungle.

The scariest thing I've ever done - a definite wow
... Me being absolutely distracted by anything didn't really pay much attention, but we all had fun which was the main thing. Me and Mary played around with our hair, took funny pictures, and acted in our usual hyper ways; it was hilarious! It wasn't long after this that we went to bed, and I definitely enjoyed it a lot more now without the worry of a daring jump off a platform! Another contribution to increasing my inner strength. Cairns
... it had a lovely leisure park by the beach, where locals and tourist alike can swim in the safety of the designer pool without the fear of being stung by a Box Jelly Fish or being taken by a crocodile. We booked ourselves on a cruise for the following day, to take us to the outer Barrier Reef to do some snorkelling. We were both looking forward to this.
