I left my dear friends in Denmark today to embark on the second half of my adventure which will lead me from my current position in Istanbul to Bucharest onto Budapest and finish out in Berlin before returning to Ibiza. I thought I had a good handle on what i was getting myself into, and then I got off the plane in Istanbul and all that changed.

... in the Western world. We stopped on our way in to visit the Cemetery and were pleasantly surprised to find cats among the gravestones. We stopped to visit with a few along the way. The stones are really interesting because there are two on each grave - one with the information about the deceased, and one is decoration. Wanted to do the Tophane Art Walk but couldn't find any of the galleries on the main strip. Didn't feel comfortable wandering the side streets because people kept staring at me ... So I splurged and went to Istanbul Modern for 15 TL. When they say "modern," it's not in the sense that we understand it in North American art history.
