I've got some sandwiches in my pack
(J): Spring break, (really Fall break for us here, but I kept calling it Spring break), brought my parents to Sydney to see us and take us to the Red Centre. We were really excited to get a break from school and see a new part of Australia.
A 3 hour flight on Virgin Blue (all the albatrosses were booked...) brought us to the Outback. We …

"In a sunny day I walked alone Solitary trees and a big red stone I sat on the ground and closed my eyes Within a second I felt I could fly I reached out my hands to the sky Soft wind I touched at the moment I cried I opened my eyes and looked up the sky Countless echoes flowing through my mind I heard the wind blow on a naked desert land Waken me …
Red Rocks!
After a shower and another 300km, we arrived in Yulara in time for Christmas lunch – a slightly hurried bowl of Peter Catalino's chilli garlic pasta – before setting out for the Olgas, or Kata-Tjuta. These amazing conglomerate protrusions come from the same geological source as Uluru but have been pushed up like chunks of a mango (think …
The Rock.
The early morning starts are wearing thin. Up at 5.45am to we can leap in the car and do the Kings Canyon walk before the heat gets too much.

To climb? Or not to climb?
Today was the mother of all early mornings - up at 4.15am, pick up from hotel at 4.45. No wonder my temper is fraying. This is not a holiday - its becoming a marathon.
Eliza is amazing. She just appears, without fail, with no fuss, approximately 1 minute after the alarm goes off, fully dressed, smile on face. Not a single complaint. Ever.< …

TravelPod Member ReviewsEmu Walk Apartments, Ayers Rock Resort Yulara
Emu Walk doesn't look like much, but it is one of the cheaper options at the resort. There is plenty of space and the bathroom was beautiful, but the bedrooms are small and a bit run down. The bed was reasonably comfortable but the sheets were 'papery'. There were ants in the kitchen but this is kind of hard to avoid in the desert.
Overall: it's a fine place to stay, but the whole resort in general needs a refurb.
