It got really quiet last night around 10:30pm...and very dark. We were right beside a lake so the heat and humidity made for difficult sleeping. Our air conditioner is very loud and we noticed that no one else had theirs on...so we used a fan instead...till about 5 when that, too was making way too much noise. So we got an early start. Made coffee and then threw the canoe in the lake and went for a paddle. Late last night and early this morning we heard several loons so ...

The drive actually wasn't too bad, but I think I'm just used to being in the car for long hours at a time by now. We passed through a couple of little towns ...

... stop in Butternut, I turned off on the rural road" "F" which began a winding, curvy ride into the heavily wooded Turtle Flambeau Flowage region. This area was created in 1926 by the building of a dam, resulting in the 12,942 acre Turtle Flambeau Lake and numerous smaller lakes that are the fishing meccas of Wisconsin. As I got deeper into the woods, the mosquitoes smelled ...

... and time to teach me a lesson? Embrace the present and harmonize with the flow.

The rest of the day was smooth sailing, the gravel road soon disappeared into fresh new black top as the road crews laid hot asphalt on my way to Glidden. Maura and I enjoyed a great pizza at Glidden's gas station, washed ...
