... were in an active volcanic hazard zone and technically the volcano could erupt at any time..shame we were only told this in the bus at the starting point. The advise was, if it did erupt, take lots of photos!! We completed the hike in just over 6 hours, a really enjoyable experience and one my legs certainly felt for a few days. I knew about the earthquake but didn’t realize the amount of devastation, they are still trying to rebuild to this day, one part where nearly 10,000 homes were effected will be made into a green park of lawns, the houses left standing were pulled down, the tree’s the people had in their yards remained, the rest of their gardens was demolished. As you will know Christchurch suffered a large earthquake in a few years ago, which as well as killing 185 people completely destroyed the majority of buildings in the city centre. We didn't know what to expect when we arrived but it certainly has a long way to go before it fully recovers. ... some food, and my family was told to bring enchiladas, which they had to ask me what they were. Overall a very fun last night and end to our journey. Tomorrow morning there is a basketball game and then a party at the Newton’s house, where Richard is staying, for the team. After that it’s off to the airport to begin our journey home! Couldn't have been a better journey!
