Day #1

Getting up and ready for my trip was absolutely dreadful. My flight was at 7:00 A.M. which meant that i had to get up around 4:30 to catch the cab to the airport. By the time I had arrived, i was basically asleep. I felt like a zombie that was moaning at everybody; the ticket taker, the security guards, and the mcdonalds woman. There was hardly anybody there especially on a trip to Dublin, Ireland. There was me and another woman and her child on the ather side of the boarding station. A few m...

... leaving the city. As she continued to describe the life of a Dubliner, I was mesmerized by window’s passing images. As I watched the buildings pass and got closer to the River Liffey, I began to see the pictures from the guidebooks I had memorized. As my cab driver began to describe the city’s layout, we approached Trinity College which looked more majestic than any guidebook could ever portray.

My taxi driver jumped out of the cab and popped the trunk to ...

We found the Craic!

... Rachael felt bad for having to watch me eat it.

We are strongly debating leaving the city tomorrow instead of Monday as we have seen just about enough of the city. That small ride up to Bru Na Boinne was a teaser in the beauty of the countryside. We were told that we are out the money of the night of the sixth from this gent at the counter now but I am going to wait for him to leave and ask someone else......you never know. :) Wish us luck.

... low-end or hi-end. I have never seen as many menus that had one side listing burgers and the other side listing pastas.....This is an island caught, literally between two worlds, America and Europe and Irish culture is paying a dear price.

Globalization sucks too, shopping for real Irish momentos is pretty much impossible...The good shops here are pretty much the same we have at home or Vancouver or Seattle...GAP, Lush, American Outfitters...Something ...

Ireland: Day 1, Arrival in Dublin

... much less epxensive way to drive in Ireland--it will cost approx. 50% of an automatic transmission. Scott hopped in the driver's seat on the wrong side of the car and off we started on the wrong side of the road toward Mellifont Abbey. When we are in Ireland, Scott is the driver 95% of the time, I am therefore the navigator. While telling Scott what ...

Planning the next move...

Hey everyone!! Well, I've been busy just keeping my butt out of trouble - working and playing and enjoying my little life here. The rain is fairly constant at the moment, but we have rare spurts of sunshine!! I got my Canadian Work Visa the other day, so I'm currently planning my next move...!! I'm thinking of going to New York in January (I'd love to catch up with those friends I've got there!!) and then to Mexico for a couple of weeks ...

Dublin Revisited

... ago, Londoners would look incredulous when I told them I was going to Dublin - why would anyone want to go to Dublin? - now it's become a hotspot, especially for "hen parties" (these are new to me too - we saw them in Belfast as well - a dozen or so women out for a night on the town). . We wandered around St. Patrick's Cathedral (where Jonathan Swift worked most of his career), and then off to Trinity University where we went through the ...

Back in Dublin

Hi all! I flew to Dublin last Saturday and stayed at Guillaume's house for three nights. After the airport pickup we went straight tot Geraldine's house, to celebrate her 30th birthday. There were loads of French people invited, everyone with his own story, and a good joke. Next day, i went to town, i saw some friends, went strolling along the streets, it was very pleasant, no need ...

You wouldn't believe me if I told you!!!

We loved our stay in the BEAUTIFUL Welsh mountains but the isolation was a little too much for us. No phone, internet but plenty of Midges! Plus I wanted to catch up with some close friends, Paul and Ciara who were up the North of Ireland in Belfast. So we decided to catch the Ferry, and by that we mean the LARGEST passenger ferry in the World! Over to Hollyhead, the ferry port from Wales. We drive up and are escorted on to one of the several levels of cars ...
