... ski gondala station, which signalled the end of the hike up the hill, was the most enjoyed vista of the day.

The fact we saved $40 by walking up the trail ($20 per person uphill, downhill free), was surprisingly little comfort in mitigating our mood....too soon.

After the 3 hour hike we bounced back to the car and went to find some Hemingway moments. The monument just outside of town was quaint, his crave site was alive. It was covered in full bottles ...

... opportunity to teach Colby the lost art of starting a fire with the assistance of sulfur dipped sticks and a friction pad. We spent some quality time by the fire as the sun set over the mountains. By 11 PM my plug was pulled and we headed into the tent. This is where the theory of tent camping clashed with the reality of tent camping. From the last time that I was in a tent 30 years ago to now, the ground has gotten much harder. The rocks ...

We woke up in a most welcoming place after a good night's sleep. Bennett and Sophie made us coffee in Carol's espresso machine, starting the day off right. Even better, Carol and Sophie made a carrot ginger juice for Amy who was craving good vegetables. The four of us headed into the town of Ketchum, and David and the kids bought a day pass to the Y and played at the pool that had a 130' water slide, a vortex pool, and ...

We woke up in Salt Lake City and found an amazing and overwhelming breakfast at The Pig and the Jelly Jar. Waffles for the kids, pork belly and kale creole benedict for Amy, and chicken and waffles for David. Then there was some hotel swimming, laundry, and much-needed showers. We explored Temple Square a little bit, but didn't need to stay long. Our best find in SLC was RubySnap, a cookie shop with about 15 different kinds of cookies to swoon ...

... was quite a developed town. They get the most snow of any place in Idaho and had a Smoke Jumper Base at their large FBO. We followed the Payette River down and noted the large number of rafts on the calmer parts. The bottom appeared to be unnavigable. After Cascade we turned on to the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Highway and noted signs of the Clear ...
