After visiting many of our favourite places, and going back to Levkas for someone to view Kerenne we have arrived in Kastos. With a Force 5 blowing from the west there is some doubt about whether the anchor is holding but after taking it in a little all seems OK, fingers crossed.

The road is covered in grit and pebbles probably from the recent storms, there are some very nice looking houses along here, we passed a lady who chatted to us in Greek, we didn't understand and she didn't speak any English. By the time we returned it was getting dark, we had tea and researched different ferry options, but didn't make a decision about which port to sail ...

At 8.30am on the morning of the 9th August, we left Big Vathi, on Ithaka Island, but first we had to wait until the yacht next to us had left as there was a good chance that he had crossed over our anchor when he arrived the evening before. The winds were quite strong and everyone was finding it a bit tricky to moor up with such strong crosswinds. All was in fact ok, no crossed anchors.

So we set off with full sails up and we were off to Kastos Island. ...

We drove up Mt. Olympus, first national park in Greece (1937). Incredible scenery as we ascended through the mists. Alternating pines and deciduous trees were beautiful. We had hoped to explore the Monastery of St Dionysiou but discovered it had been destroyed by German troops in WW2.
