... the night on the piazza just people watching. Old men, kids, dogs, young lovers and families just spending their evening walking and visiting with each other instead of at home in front of the boob tube. The next morning in search of our cappuccino and cornetti we found Miramare American Bar. We enjoyed our coffee looking out at the port and chatting with ...

After a circuitious route flying we arrive in Reggio di Calabria, at the 'toe' of Italy. We had an overnight stay at a B & B and dinner at a very low-key place where locals go to get a takeaway. There were large trays of various roasted or steamed vegetables and choices of rotisseried meats. We weren't sure of the system, but the one of the women serving was very helpful, even though she didn't speak English. We sat and ate a very basic but tasty and cheap meal of ...

... relics of St Nicolas, which were 'stolen' from Turkey. It's still an important pilgrimage destination, which we saw when we went down the stairs to the crypt and saw worshippers taking communion, and what looked like handing their prayers to one of the three priests, who were standing in a special area, to be blessed and then placed with a statue of St Nicolas. For lunch, Rob returned to the deli and this time the man made an extra special roll, with ...

... by itself. Has told me if I want packed lunches to take on tours he will organise food for me. Feeling very "special" these days!

Docked at Bari in Italy today. Lots of fisherman on the wharf set up in stalls selling their fresh fish. Quiet around town being a Sunday. Back on ship now and Merv is watching rugby in the sports bar.

Looking forward to going to Katakolon ...
