One thing I have noticed so far while travelling is that New Zealand is a much more relaxed place when it comes to rules and procedures. Some examples we have seen so far:

Cheers to the first of theoretically many blog entries. My gap year starts tomorrow and I'm finding it hard to say good bye. Monday 20th of Feb 2012, afternoon flight to Singapore then over to Zurich should get there Tuesday morning. Thanks to Bella and Mum for the help packing.

... stop for the day is Apollo Bay which was by far the nicest town we had seen on the road today. We picked up some fresh fish from the docks and then headed to our hostel which was another pleasant surprise. We stayed at the YHA which was definitely the best hostel we found in Australia and probably in the top ten of the trip.
