    Good day to everyone. Well, it rained pretty ******* and off last night. We had to close the windows since the wind was blowing it sideways, but it was fine as it had cooled off nicely. It was only misting when we got up but the forecast called for rain most of the day. I checked the weather radar online and it did look like we had some rain still coming. So be it.

    We ate breakfast and decided to get going in case it did begin to rain. Our plan ...

    ... They even have costume rentals for both girls and boys and we saw some boys with tri-cornered hats and soldier uniforms. There are activities at places all around where guests can participate in re-enacted colonial life including printing shops, coopers, post office, tailor, shoemakers, weavers, a colonial garden, even a courthouse where you participate in a trial like it would have been at the time.     ... and potatoes too.

    We saw one way in which the roads are maintained - by prisoners. In a scene right out of a Hollywood film we passed a 'gang' of prisoners repairing the road watched over by a guard with a gun. Their bus with barred windows nearby.

    We continue to try local food and drink - grouper and lobster stir fry for me; grilled swordfish for Mum. Both washed down with Pelican Nut Beer only brewed for the Black Pelican restaurant where we were dining.

    We saw in the newspaper this morning before leaving Sanford that they were predicting a heatwave today in North Carolina which went against our hopes of fresh sea breezes on the Atlantic coast.

    Anyway, away into the heat we rode for several hours until we arrived 250 miles later at Kill Devil Hills and the Kittyhawks memorial to the Wright Brothers ...
