... people gyrated (I suppose it was dancing?) in colourful costumes – or rather accessories! All to celebrate the end of the sugar cane harvest and the success of the rum production!
On one day we hired a car and explored the island – marvelling at the ferocious seas of the Atlantic at Animal Flower caves and Bathsheba compared to our gently lapping, clear, warm, blue waters on the west coast ...
So, after 5 days worth of failed attempts trying to fly standby, I came to the realisation that this is probably going to be impossible for the next month at least. There were 40 other people waiting with me in standby, many of them AA staff, many of them with families and many of them completely stranded for one reason or the other - a few were stuck behind too many people in line and checkin ...
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffeThis is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffe... Both dishes came with a side of deliciously prepared cauliflower (I wish I knew what they did to it to make it like that!) and one of my favorite things down here, fried plantains. We had a seaside table in the corner overlooking the bay -- *highly* romantic. Perfect for the honeymoon.
And now we are mostly packed and ready for a very early trip to the airport in the morning. Barbados, it's been lovely. Puerto Rico, here we come!
... the church that dated almost five hundred years ago. It was kind of creepy walking all around them, but this is what made the whole place intriguing and captivating.
We stopped for while along the ocean to admire big huge boulders right on the shore. It was absolutey beautiful seeing them.
Our next stop was at the Highland Adventure Center where we sipped a complimentary soft drink. It was relaxing and we enjoyed the view once ...
... arrived in Barbados this morning at 7:00am under a warm blue sunny sky. A new day, a new adventure. Today promises to be quite exciting since we will be swimming with sea turtles and tropical fishes. Lets hope they show up!
As we disembarked the ship around 8:00am , we met with our tour guide and followed him to another pier to board a really nice sleek, power boat for a high-speed ride to Turtle Bay ...
... an onward flight by Internet the day before), checking my itinerary twice at la migra going and coming, once at the airline counter- at least they gave two days in the country JUST TO MAKE AN ONWARD CONNECTION THE SAME DAY. I remain optimistic, just like I was at the ferry crossing from Suriname to Guyana, what, some four days ago? It seems like four months. By analogy to Einstein's theory, I guess time slows down when you ...
Bridgetown, Barbados hardiek... lures. However, from time to time, we would have flying fishes jumping into the boat due to miscalculation. They tasted like sweet like sardines. Other rarities we've caught was a Dolphin fish and a Rainbow runner. Soon, we were met with the other extreme condition : No wind! Before you start thinking that it's comfortable, it's not. The boat would rock in all directions. The wood would creak so loudly, the pots and pans clanking against each other ...
Bridgetown, Barbados ccheng... Just as we settled in, a storm kicked up and the rains and winds started blowing outside. We had made it back just in time to keep from getting drenched. Perfect timing. Michael had marinaded a chicken, so we popped that into the oven, while he whipped up some papaya and mango smoothies for us to enjoy. We cooked up some curry rice, corn and broccoli and sat down to a delicious meal before we all started to feel that sleepy spirit sneaking up on us.
Bridgetown, Barbados globetrotters... freshers who i don't even recognize because they kept so quiet, and i think that was the wrong approach. anyways, after the first few days grub line became an entertaining activity. among the highlights were an early morning walk to the beach to play soccer, marching down to our rival dorm, sherlock hall, at five in the morning and singing songs outside their windows, and a karoke night in the student guild, which is a sort of central place for students to hang out and stuff. one ...
