Wednesday August 6th

We are up and off early from Icici for a ride down the spectacular Istrian coast. No breakfast at the camping ground so we are on the lookout for a likely cafe. And we soon find it. We look down from the outside balcony at the quite stunning, unspoilt Adriatic coastline as we get to grips with big ham and cheese toasties washed down with black tea.

... I felt like I was in a dream land. I am always so blown away when considering the history of these places I've visited. Stayed at a place with a vineyard and a pool. I spent most of my time tanning, swimming, eating and drinking. Doesn't surprise you, does it? Lol. This part of Croatia is known for truffles, which are dug up by trained dogs. I didn't realize how much I love truffles because they're too expensive in Canada. Might be really far to ship fresh ones, ...

... Park with a 5 kilometer tunnel. Arrived at the train station with no map showing where our accommodation was so resorted to a taxi. Much discussion amongst drivers when we showed them the address & thanks to Navmam arrived in the vicinity. And I mean that loosely- street went two ways so lovely waiter in a cafe took us to the building. Past Roman ruins of a centurions house, up stone steps and the intercom. Up ...

... Strolling at night is the thing to do here & when in Rome or other places occupied by so we joined in. The colosseum is lit at night & at this time used as outdoor movie theatre for the Pula film festival.
Walked through area known as zerostrasse- tunnels dug out of rock by hand in WW 1 & used to store armaments & prisoners & in WW2 as bomb shelters by the people. Up to 40,000 could shelter there. The town square ...

... Thursday as the highly advertised ‘Gladiator Show' for 7 lured us in. After the show we took in the rest of the town and its tourist spots, it was actually really nice but our moods were ruined by the disappointing show so we had an (another) ice-cream and headed back to the hostel.
