      Made it down the bay overnight

      ... for poor visibility we were ducking in and out of the channel to avoid Navy traffic.

      During the trip down anything that wasn't fastened down below ended up on the floor in the salon. Left Annapolis at 2 Monday and arrived at Top Rack Marina at about 2 this afternoon. Rewarded ourselves with a great dinner out at the Amber Lantern Restaurant. Early to bed. Up at 5:30 tomorrow to get underway at first light.

      ... As we approached Virginia Beach we were buzzed by FA 18's fighter jets overhead! We soon found out we were camped near the Navel Air Station Oceana, the only Jet Base on the East Coast. We were serenaded with their daily training flights - or the sound of freedom! One night we had helicopters (I think) overhead until 1:30am YES in the middle of the night! They seem to be doing circuits for hours & hours. Needless to say we were not thrilled ...

      ... and past a deep creek bed before arriving at the James River, wide and clear and shallow.

      Thursday evening we had a birthday party at Aunt Jan's mum's place, as her brother Jerry had a birthday on the same day. It was a lovely evening, lots of stories and chatting and even an epic birthday cake with everyone singing 'Happy Birthday' and Jerry's daughter vying for the privelage to blow out candles! It was a nice close to a very blessed day. ...

      ... the Morgans. On Saturday the Morgans will meet their (rented) 2-wheeled travelling companion for the first time - and off we shall go. Heading westwards after the sun.

      ... very sweet people.Then got geared up to grab lunch (delicious mexican food) and pick up Joel to head to the beach! When we got to Joel's, we got to meet his mother, she was such a sweetheart, and funny. She showed me an old picture of Joel from highschool when he had a goofy jew-fro it was hilarious. Once we loaded up the car with balls, games, and drinks we ventured to the beach. It was so nice, the water was warm but a little rapid. I might have lost my top due to ...
