    My only frame of reference for Rhodes has always been the Colossus, the giant statue dedicated to Helios, god of the sun, that was one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

    Of course, Colossus is long gone, destroyed during a massive earthquake in 226 BC. It stood almost 100 feet tall, but only for just a bit more than six decades.

On the way home we were entertained by an old gentlemen balancing bottles, doing rope tricks and then belly dancing for us...he invited me to join him and of course I couldn't resist...even got a few cheers from the mostly Turkish crowd.     ... Muslims, the government has not permitted even one mosque to be built. So no call to prayers before dawn every day, and no covered ladies.
    We've visited Lindos too, midway along Rhodes coast, involving a long bus trip, then a longer walk to the top of a large stony mountain, only to find the Acropolis closed for May Day. That's Greece for you!
