... today. Which actually is not the best place to start as today sucked. We finally heard back from the car hire place for the damage caused in the car accident last week and got slapped with a hefty quote of $1100 which, as I imagine most thrifty backpackers do, I immediately put in to terms of stuff on my to-do list i.e. "that's basically what it would've cost us to do a diving course which we've been putting off as we can't afford it". Not an enjoyable summation ...

Didn't fancy going for a swim as there could of been jellyfish knocking about. Apparently crocodiles could turn up on the beach, but were so rare they'd be on the news if they did. ... in Cairns for dinner. Sara opted for the local fish barramundi while Dave went for the Crocodile and Kangaroo duo. Roo has a rich flavour similar to steak except it is tougher, while Croc is a very tasty white meat with a clean texture and no fat. It was our first meal in six months that had a white tablecloth, a full set of china crockery and white napkins. Australia is an amazing country with some great wildlife ...

... the Reef but thankfully after the 90 minute trip on the Seastar catamaran it improved with occasional sunshine but more importantly the wind eased off. The first stop was at Michaelmas Cay where I had my first ever scuba dive for about 20 minutes. We were guided down to about 6m holding on to a rope and performed some basic manoeuvres. It was great fun and ended too early so I was itching to have another go. Unfortunately Stella was not able to scuba dive but I joined her ...
