    That night Fabian had organised dinner out at a locals place. Maisey was her name. Big island lady with perfect English (most of roatan is english speaking and use american dollars). Although the tourist strip is lovely there is plenty of poverty still on the island. Maisey's place was like anywhere else in Honduras, dirt roads, basic basic hse, scrawny dogs, but happy kids. ...

    Roatan was the first leg of our (with wife Ruth and son Zach) Western Caribbean cruise from Galveston, Texas. We were at the sea for three nights, the last one being the New Year celebration at the ship. Waking up still tired, I was anxious on what to see on this island.
