... Gothic is a biological research laboratory in the Elk Mountains. Gothic was a neat town. Lots of research buildings and cabins. One store which sold ice cream and snacks.

To get to Gothic requires a 4WD vehicle as it was a dirt road for about 15 miles. With the recent rain, it was quite muddy. But the RAM was up to the task. We learned that another mile up the road we would find a trail that lead ...

So when we went the bed, I set the alarm for 6:00AM so we could get an early start to Colorado. The alarm screeched in the morning and we hustled to get the coach ready for the road. I thought is was strange that it was still dark out but never mind that. After everything was set up, I checked the watch to see if we were ...

... at 6mph. I was still feeling lousy from the altitude, so I was happy to have the ride. The driving construction worker had a lazy eye and talked with a deep, gravelly, drunken-sounding slur. He helped my bike down and was astonished by the weight. My back pannier broke off in the hustle, so our group took a break on the side of the road while I repaired and readjusted it with Chris' tools. Another cyclist rode up on the back of the pilot truck, and I joked that ...
