Aspen March 2015

A travel blog entry by miramar1 on Mar 19, 2015

... check the weather. The whole trip I had been monitoring the weather, as we had been under a winter storm warning. They had been predicting Tuesday was going to be the snowiest day and it so happened that Tuesday was the day I was supposed to fly out. Knowing the reputation Aspen airport has of getting closed a lot due to weather, I checked united.com and saw that they were offering flight waivers/exceptions to change flights for people ...

Alexis Pinturault (France) was 2nd, thereby having a very successful weekend and pre-race favourite Marcel Hirscher (Austria) was ...

Super G is like downhill but with a few more gates that the skier has to pass through. Unlike downhill though they do not get any training runs on the actual course only a course inspection an hour or so before the start time. This adds to the challenge for the skier and excitement for the spectators as sometimes it all goes horribly ...

Aspen/Snowmass

A travel blog entry by miramar1 on Apr 10, 2012

... I felt like I spent an awful lot of time riding buses. I think if I had it to do over, I would stay in downtown Aspen and bus to ski, rather than stay at Snowmass and bus to having a wider range of restaurants and to ski the various mountains. When I booked the trip in October, I had planned on skiing mostly Snowmass, as I didn’t know I’d have someone else to ski with which is why I decided to stay at Snowmass. Had I planned on skiing multiple ...
