... People come from all over to look for all the many species that either live here or pass through. Directly south of here is a place called Turtle Mountain and there are a bunch of lakes. We have seen many vehicles with canoes or kayaks on top, heading down to the park. We were so busy touring the town and watching the sunset last night that we didn't get a chance to tour the site to find the public showers and bathrooms. This was our 11th year at Cass Lake, our 10th year at Birch Villa Resort.
People who vacationed with us:
Both weeks – Tom, Linda, Leah & Chloe (cabin 7, BV); Paul, Melissa & Tommy (cabin 6, BV); Roy, Deb, Luke, Kara, Leah & Erin (1st wk- Townhome, 2nd wk- ...
... we already had frozen to take home with their catch. We always end up with extra fish in our freezer at the end of the year, so we were more than happy to share some.
The rest of the afternoon was spent saying good-bye to Mom & Dad, packing, kayaking (Deb, Beth and I), swimming and tubing. It was a beautiful sunny day, and with temps in the mid- to upper-80's, one of the warmest days we've had here this year.
... it wasn't a total bust. And mom was happy with the nice crappie she snagged.
It was a beautiful day for kayaks, so Deb and I took them out for a leisurely ride . It was so nice to get all caught up on each other's lives. We never seem to have trouble finding things to talk about, and our friendship just picks right up where we last left off.

... family (the 5 of us who were left) and go for a bike ride on the Mi-Gi-Zi trail around Pike Bay. Jared was able to borrow Paul's bike, allowing all of us to go. A couple hours later we came to the end of the trail, tired, sweaty, and a bit dirty, but having a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment of a very beautiful bike ride. Although the lake and forest are peaceful now, it was sad to see the destruction left behind by the huge wind storm, which had closed the trail ...
