... on my little rock I gazed down at the valley far below me and took in the beauty of the mountain behind me. It was a beautifully peaceful and stunning spot. They say that being out in nature is good for the soul, a sentiment to which I could fully relate as I relaxed on my lofty perch munching on an apple. I'm sure that I could have stayed up there all day but aware that we needed to make tracks for Mammoth Lakes I headed back down the mountain the same way ...

Willow was miserable with the hot weather in Sacto and Reno (90's) and I had her groomed in Carson City. She looked like a shorn sheep but she was more comfortable without the extra coat; that is until our stay in Mammoth Lakes. In the evenings she now needs her jacket to keep her warm. ... 20 to enter the park and the pass lasted 7 days, we thought that was pretty cheap. On the way into the park (it is that big that once you enter you still have a fairly long drive to where you camp!) you drive through some of the most amazing and breath taking scenery. Vast mountains covered in forests and in parts snow and ice, waterfalls crashing over the tops, twisty and turny roads that climb and then drop. We really did feel so very tiny in comparison ...

... on to the road that traversed a route over the foothills of the Sierras in order to reach California and the road north to Mammoth Lakes. I passed steep dark slate cliffs along a road that wound up and over a tight pass and down the other side to a wide plain and into California.

I arrived in Mammoth Lakes just as an onimous front was closing in over the town. I set up for the night at the RV park and waited to see what the night ...
