Mammoth bumps and bruises all over bodie

A travel blog entry by parkitromp on Sep 09, 2014

... at the bottom Bushell went again but I went for a lie down in the car. Too much adventure for one day? No. We still had two things to visit. Firstly the wild wild West town of Bodie. Not that wild anymore but during its growth during the Gold strikes in the 1850's it was a thriving town with more crime than south east london. Bodie fires and new locations for gold led to a desertion which has left only 200 buildings today. Very interesting and surreal. Last on the list for the day ...

... Saddlebag lake and the 20 Lakes trail i read about. It was a high altitude, about 10,000 feet after we drove up the windy dirt road. The scenery was amazing and there was a layer of snow on most of it. The full trail is about a four hour figure eight thru mountains and we decided to do the first half around the lake only. The tail was super rocky scree and difficult to walk on. We took tons of pics and i'll post some in a few ...

The apartment is is very cute and stocked with a pantry full of food. We had the same experience in England and Spain. It certainly helps the traveller who doesn't want to purchase a whole heap of herbs sauces etc. only to have to leave them behind. Our cases certainly are packed to ...

... resort we decided to check the map properly and soon saw that we needed to walk another couple of miles to get the bus!! Gutted! The walk up to the bus was a nightmare since it was so steep, the ground uneven and worst of all it was getting dark and the reality of meeting a bear or mountain lion was becoming much more likely! We did cross paths with a deer at one point and Jojo just about needed CPR so gawd knows what would ...

... come to find out it was Guy Fiettei!!! He was with his family just getting away from the house for awhile. We got to meet a real life celebrity, and he was awesome (not a terrible person). Once down from the mountain, we called our parents to tell them the news. We drive to our campsite where we set up camp and ate dinner. Our site is by the river just outside of Yosemite and its nice and quiet. Maybe we will get some sleep ...
