... Church. Simply stunning with the fresco's uncleaned and blackened with the soot of the candles (the only illumination). You get the feeling when entering the church that is a very holy place. The monastery was set in the mountains and was amazing with all the rocks and trees around. We ended the day back in Sofia walking the wide street that has been made into a walking street since Neytcho and Crassi were last in Sofia. There were lots of restaurants and people out enjoying the ...

... the bell in the tree, the yellow brick road, and tasted the fresh natural mineral water from springs running under the city. Took the recommendation from the hostel to a great restaurant in the city, quite low key and run by 3 brothers, but great food and very fun guys to banter with. Check in at the Lion Hotel was easy. Hotel is just ok, check our comments for our review of the hotel. Dropped our gear, changed into walking shoes and headed out to see the sights. For Bulgaria not actually being a former Soviet block country, it sure looks and feels like one...capitalism is clinging to every corner; shops in basements, driveways, and even open tables in ...

    ... the city.
The next day I was going to yoga and Kiat and Kaptan decided to come with me. Neither had practiced before but thought it would be good to loosen there stiff muscles after the mountain walk. Half way through the class Kaptan turned to me and said, "This is worse than climbing the mountain." and after the class Kiat realised he's pulled a muscle in his back. Despite this Kaptan continued coming everyday and Kiat said he'd continue ...

... and worth a visit but not a place we would spend a lot of time in. We walk into the Russian churches, beautiful and so dark and as you walk around them nearly every turn there are old ladies sitting around begging for money. We walk the streets, lots of old ladies selling flowers, gypsies with young kids, beggers and buskers and lots of real stocky built guys (possibly potential olympic weightlifters maybe?).

We find the yellow brick road, the ...
