the sharks are scared of YOU!

... swam off when we entered the water. Again, really hot and the sun is strong! The water is warm, and the breeze is a temporary relief. The Lazy Lizard bar at the Split is the place to be, but be warned there are swarms of hungry mosquitoes at sunset. I could imagine that when tourist season is in full swing, it could be a little crazy. I ate lobster four nights in a row!—three nights at Fran's Beachside Grill! Well worth the 25BZD ($12.50 USD ...

In a Nutshell

... reef instead. Although the colors weren´t as vivid as in Cozumel, and the fish were a bit smaller, it was still a great dive. The coral was arranged, as they described it, in ´fingers´´ -- think of laying out your hand with the fingers being coral reefs, and the space between your fingers being little canyons, with a sandy bottom, to explore. We also saw barracuda and a rather large lobster. The company and the divemaster we went with were great, and it ...

Even lazier days

... all these package tourists turned up to use the pool. We left, not before asking how much a room would be for a night (they were right on the beach, con pool, con aircon) but turned out to be 100 US a night. Pfft. I'll stick with the 30 US a night place we have at the back of the chinese restaurant.

It's been a ***** to try and find decent wifi, but just found a cool bar that has super fast wifi and super cool Bob Marley. Pity we leave tomorrow, but hey we get ...

Ahh...Caye Caahhhlker

... than ready to move on.

A 30 minute ferry sped us out to Caye Caulker yesterday and all I can say is 'aaaaahhhhhh.' The village of Caye Caulker is tiny - the entire island is only 5 miles long and 1 mile wide at the widest point. No cars, no paved roads to pollute it. People get around by foot, bicycle, or golf cart. Little kids run around barefoot and peddling around 2 to 3 on a bike ...

San Ignacio to Caye Caulker 29th November - 5th dec Today we arrived in caye caulker an awsom backpackers island about 45min by ferry from Belize city. The shaman squid and the princess

... seemed like an eternity. It was a marvellous spectacle. Somehow they were trying to signal me or were more likely doing a ceremony of their own happy that I could be there. The squid in the center was their shaman, connecting with mother earth in its own magical way. I watched endlessly, lying calmly on the sandy bottom, hypnosed by the ...

The Last Day - by Sydney

... and jumped away very quickly. The innocent looking snake Dougald was bravely trying to tame was infact the seccond most venamous snake in the world with a striking range of up to 12 feet. If one was to be bitten by one of these vipers they could expect an hour left of life if medical attention was not immediately seeked. We were well over two hours away from the nearest hospital. So mustering up some courage Dougald grabbed a large rock and ...

Caye Caulker and sailing south to Placencia

... a nice dinner of fresh barracuda. As we lolled on the sand, or swam in the warm ocean, it was wonderful to imagine living here on your own island. That night we were sitting around a campfire, roasting marshmallows (Fact: Central American marshmallows don't burn easily like American ones) and telling stories, when a few rain drops splashed down. Thus began a hilarious scramble to put our rain flys on in the dark. The tents were not symmetrical so even ...

The best part was the pie.

... or covered, so we trudged through the wet, muddy sand, skirting the massive puddles covering the road until we got to Costa Maya Cabanas, only to find that our room was a tiny, dim room with one smallish bed. After escaping the room and talking with Heather, the owner, we were told, once again, to leave our stuff and not make a mess while she tried to get some visitors who had been asking about our room (whatever for?) to switch with them once they arrived. We went ...
