... nuclear fallout than the Ukraine, because of prevailing wind conditions.

Anyway, years later groups in Spain sponsored trips for young victims of Chernobyl to come and visit, and Katsiaryna was one of them, and spent several weeks in southern Spain one summer. The story became quite comical, because while in Spain, the daughter of the sponsor family she stayed with was a big Enrique Iglesias fan, and dragged Katsiaryna along. They drove 6-7 hours to the concert ...

FOOTLOOSE IN BARCELONA

... is vibrant, it's an emotional city. I saw more lovers - young and old - there than I ever saw in Paris. We stayed in a great hotel built over the railway station - not a bit noisy - soooo handy for the Metro, and open-top tour buses stopped just outside. It is essentially a maritime capital of a nation of sailors and merchants - a Mediterranean city. We met Maria Albacar, a mature tourism official who exuded warmth and hospitality, and a ...

European Travels: Spain-Barcelona Day 3

... around the beautiful streets of Barcelona and after about an hour of walking, mom repeated once more that she was pretty tired and she wanted something to eat, so we continued to walk, hoping to find the right place to eat at and seriously after about another half an hour later, my mom said that she really needed something, so we stopped and I gave her some pretzels to tied her over, and ...

Spiritual temperature of Spain

... the future. The task is an uphill battle for sure. But you would have to believe that people of Europe and Spain would soon begin to seek something of real substance, not tarot cards, palm reading and superstition of the past religions. Can it be done? Perhaps not in our life time but we must begin to get the message to the younger generation in Europe. That is the challenge, just how do we do that. The new ...

The Barcelona experience

... language signs everywhere. The Spanish practice is always useful. My hotel was in an excellent location, It's only about a block away from Plaza Catalunia, and Las Ramblas. This essentially allowed me to walk to most of the interesting destinations. The jet lag is pretty rough though. Day one was all about just staying awake and I did that by walking around the neighbourhood and checking out some local cafes.

Scooter....that crazy gnome!

... sitting outside and drinking coffey, or eating something light. You can spend all day just walking up and down the strip, and something different happens every hour or so. I just saw about 15 guys in their 30s following one of their friends who was dressed up in a chicken outfit playing the tambourine while they sang some Spanish song. It looked like a bachelor party or something, and I guess the chicken was the lucky guy...too funny! Last night I ...

the rain in Spain

... took a bus to the central plaza area and went looking for a place to stay in the rain. A couple hostals I checked were full (most were closed) and the only other places open were expensive hotels. I thought, "well, there's not much here but plazas and beach (in rain) so I'll just go to Barcelona". So I did. I got checked into a pension in Barcelona then went looking around the city at some of the sites. Barcelona has A LOT to see. At the Picasso museum, there were ...
