    The Longest Day Begins

A travel blog entry by traveled on Aug 23, 2014

This Friday was my Friday off at work. Thank goodness because I had a ton of preparation to do for this vacation. It was only to be two weeks long, but wanting to pack light for weather that would be fairly cold (meaning heavier clothes) and rainy had some challenges. I spent most of the day doing laundry, dishes, taking out the trash, and other chores, along with packing. Later ...

    Just Making Miles

Not much to report today. We drove from Austin to Beaumont, Texas in just under four hours with only a ten-minute stop for tea and restrooms. Not that we're in a hurry, but Lulu planned it that way so we could watch the Netherlands play Argentina in the three 'o clock game (we're in Central time now) in our hotel room. After the disappointing game, we ...

... lots of basic tables but all full with the locals. Our waitress Brittney (briitneee) was very nice but really into trying to figure out the puzzles on the Lone Star beer tops. We decided not to try the alligator tenders (maybe another time!) and settled for crab cake for Peter & grilled shrimp for me, all very good especially the baked potato. There was some strange stuff for sale in jars there that we passed on, don't want to try everything ...

... bring us to a sceeching halt for a time and so I started looking for a campground closer to Houston. Well, the GPS told us ETA in Beaumont would be about 5:30. Of course that would be straight driving and since we're older, we knew we would have to stop a couple of times, making ETA closer to 6pm. We decided to go for it.

We made our mandatory stop at Buckees and then since we had 32 ounce drinks, another stop to get rid of the drinks and switch drivers. ...
