    Awesome place to stay

We really enjoyed this resort. We had planned on staying in a regular motel in a nearby town, but after seeing that the prices were about the same, we thought for the same price we might as well stay at the newer place not to mention it was a resort vs the motel we were going to stay at. Once getting there the staff was excellent, helpful, extremely friendly, the manager was an excellent help and she even remembered our names at checkout 5 days later, housekeeping was also very friendly. Once getting to our room on the 21st floor, it was above and beyond our expectations. It was extremely clean. We had a king size pillowtop bed with down feather pillows or at least it seemed like it. We had 2 bathrooms which was really convenient. Bunk beds which we didn't know about, we were expecting our 4 and 2 year olds to sleep with us or on the couch. The kitchen and dining/living areas were huge. To top it off the view from our balcany was awesome and beautiful. We will stay there again, it was our home away from home. The only thing no so cool was we had to wash our own towels but considering that was the only bad thing, oh well-with everything else being so excellent who cares about having to wash a little laundry on vacation.

Great Vacation at Calypso Resort & Towers

    Dear Fellow TripAdvisor Readers:

We spent a wonderful week at the Calypso Resort & Towers in late August. We booked through VRBO. When you go to their website, the listing number is 81956. We were very pleased with the unit. It was beautiful and comfortable. I have included pics in this review. The beds were dreamy comfortable, very high quality, pillow-top mattresses and fluffy pillows. The kitchen was well stocked and convenient. The view from the unit is fantasitc and can be enjoyed from the kitchen/dining/living area as well as the master bedroom. Beach chair rental is included with the unit and that is worth about $25 per day. The resort has two pools, both identical. We enjoyed the pools in the evening, after a day at the beach. The resort has an attached, via a crossover walk, parking garage. The resort is conveniently located near activities and grocery stores. The area surrounding the resort is under construction for a new entertainment district named Pier Park. I read about the plans for Pier Park and once it's finished, it will be a one-stop destination for dining, shopping, entertainment. Literally, all you will have to do when you stay at Calypso is to walk across the street to Pier Park. You might not have to use your car for a week. We were very happy renting from the owner thru VRBO and plan to rent again on our next trip to Panama City Beach. I know some other fellow travelers had less then happy vacations based on their tripadvisor reviews, but I can honestly say that ours was great. Maybe the resort rental program differs from renting from a private owner. I always rent from VRBO and have't been let down yet. Also, we usually vacation in middle to late August so it's much less crowded but the weather is still beautiful. So, we never had a problem with overcrowded pools. Also, we didn't have to use the management for anything so I really didn't have contact with them, good or bad. Thanks for reading the review and happy travels.

    Warning-unethical management

We cancelled a reservation for September-website states that you can cancel within 24 hours with no penalty. We cancelled the reservation a month ago, and our $200 deposit still hasn't been refunded, after several calls. We are having to dispute the transaction with MasterCard.

    Loved Calypso!

My wife, 2 children and I arrived at the new Calypso and were delighted by the unique Carribean look of the development. We pulled up directly beside the reservations desk and easily checked in and unloaded our car with luggage carts at the front desk. We then parked and used the enclosed air-conditioned walkway over the street. We quickly caught an elevator and went to our 2 bedroom / 2 bath unit on the 6th floor. We were pleasantly taken-aback by the upscale appointments in the unit - fine furniture, granite countertops, plush linens - even Gilchrist & Soames toiletries were provided. The wall of windows from the living room and master bedroom gave an incredible view of the white sand and emerald green water. (We're from the East Coast and not used to the magnificent colors in the Gulf). Our kids loved the pools. They are heated - not sure if they were in the summer but the water was always warm. The development seemed to be on the quieter and less congested side of PCB but still convenient to restaurants (Calypso cafe across the street and walking distance to Sharky's - a great outdoor restaurant) We could also drive through Pier Park to avoid traffic on Front Beach Rd. We loved this place and would recommend this resort to all types of vacationers.

We have just returned from Calypso in P.C. Beach-the property is beautiful, very tropical, always clean. Everywhere you look there are personnel cleaning, the front desk very accomodating & helpful. The location is superb-close to everything , not busy with traffic as further down the beach-which is nice. When Pier Park is complete, this will be the prime property to rent-you will never have to drive as it will be right there, just across the walkway-shopping, dining, entertainment, etc. The pools were very nice as they flow along the width of the property-1 for each building on the beach side-they are elongated so there is much room for each party to congregate without being on top of the others. Also lots of pool furniture. The unit itself is very nice with everythng you could need. Large-nice tropical pattern-we had the 2 bdrm + 2 bunnk which was nice as we had 6 adults & plenty of room. There was enough patio furniture on the balcony for us all to enjoy the spectacular views-coffee in the morning & margaritas at sunset. The view is awsome! Sunrises & Sunsets! Very Nice & Relaxing!!! Fun too!!!

    Will Come Back In October

This was the best vacation I have had. The condo was great and the staff was excellent. We wanted to add an extra night and they took care of calling our booking company for us. The pools were clean and large. The rooms were excellent with beautiful furniture. This is a great place to bring the family. We took our 1 year old daughter and she had a blast.

    Awesome views

First trip to Panama City and was impressed with the Hotel upon arrival. Room was clean, ornate, with several upscale touches. View from the balcony was awesome and thoroughly enjoyed on a daily basis. The desk appeared to be a little disorganized and frustrated upon check in. Had to switch rooms as our first room while lovely had an odor of what seemed to be animal. Notified management and were promptly switched to another room that was even nicer than the original. The second room however, had no internet service for two days. Had to have IT support come down from Destin to repair. All in all I think the Calypso is still ironing out a few bugs. It was however a trip that my family enjoyed very much.

    Calypso is Spectacular!

First, the location of Calypso is great for PCB - on the West side which has less congestion. It is also close to the Dan Russell Pier which my kids loved as we could easily walk there. The development is brand new and our unit (2 br - 501W) was spacious and beautiful - granite, gorgeous furniture, island kitchen, plush bedding/towels, etc. The balcony was big with great views of the beach and ocean. The pools were heated with nice landscaping and right on the beach. The beach is white and is vacuumed every morning with chairs put out and beach activities (jet ski and boat rentals). There is plently of parking and a walk-over breezeway. You can also park by the front door and unload with luggage carts (they do need to get more of these). There is a restaurant across the street if you don't want to have to get in your car. There is also a new Target and movie theater opening soon across the street which will be convenient as well. I also heard there will be more restaurants and shopping in Pier Park opening over the next few years. Calypso is definitely a happy place that my family will return to again.

    Calypso Towers was great!

My husband and I and our two sons loved Calypso Resort & Towers. The rooms were very clean, great flatscreen tv in living area, bed was large and comfortable, nice bunkbeds for the kids, every utensil and dish you could need in the kitchen. The washer and dryer were great for washing up our beach towels and swimsuits. The beach was awesome especially if you get out there at 7:00 or 8:00 before the crowd gets up. The pool opens at 9:00am and is cleaned and checked everyday prior to that. People do sneak out and try to lay their towels on the chairs before the cleaning crew has even been through, so sometimes getting a chair can be hard at times. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking in the parking garage also. Overall we had a great experience, no complaints!

    Probably would not recommend

We just returned from our stay at the Calypso Resort and Towers at Panama City Beach. Our stay was both good and bad. First, the room was nice and new (the entire resort is new) with tile floors, granite counter tops and real furniture (no wicker!!!). The appliances are new and there were plenty of utensils, pots, pans, etc. There are two towers with elevators for each and we never waited long for an elevator. The resort is very close to the beach with all the rooms gulf front. The chairs on the beach are included with the condo, but they are first come first serve. And you must get there early to reserve one. There are two pools and plenty of parking. There is also loading and unloading at the front door that is convienent and close to the elevators. Then there were some issues. The air conditioning was broken two of the four days we were there and we heard some of the rooms did not have water (fortunately, we always had water). Also, the two pools are very small and CROWDED. There was never a chair available, because they all had towels on the from 9am on. This is fairly common at any condo, however, there were only chairs on one side of the pool; therefore, it was especially bad. In addition, the pool water was nasty. It was cloudy and seemed stagnant; and one day, the pool was closed. We, fortunately, wanted to spend most of our time at the beach. We also had no type of maid service or towel service. When I asked where to pick up and drop off towels, I was told that is why there is a washer and dryer in the room. I was shocked because any other condo I have ever stayed had some type of towel service. I did not go on vacation to do laundry. Then there was the trash chute; both times we went to put in a bag of trash, it was full. We were on the 5th floor and went to the 7th the first time to be able to put our bag in. Then the next time, it was even full on the 7th floor, so we left it in our room we we checked out. Another small detail, there were no directions in the room for numbers to call (even for the front desk) or what needs to be done before checking out or even how to check out. Overall, this place seems to have alot of problems for such a new resort and I would not return or recommend this place.

When I got onto the beach I was feeling self conscious but eventually got the confidence to go into the water with about a group of 20 of the others. And I am SO glad I did. The water and the beach and just being there with the group was so incredible. I felt like this was a huge step for me. I had ...

We were not to be disappointed. My dish of blackened grouper fish (chunky fillet grilled with Cajun spices) was by far the best seafood dish I've ever eaten, and up there with some of the best food I've eaten, period.
