      Nothing is perfect

A travel blog entry by jchende on Feb 07, 2015

... need to get an alarm system and then worry about it long distance. The Venetian Falls place. Beautiful inside, much newer than the other places we looked at, being sold furnished, lovely grounds, across the street from a beautiful club house and pool. Lots of activities, very low HOA fees BUT there is nothing special about it - no view except plants out the back. No Florida feel other than it would be warm and sunny. I know that doesn't make sense but I can't ...

What a difference a day makes

Turn the calendar from January 31 to Feb 1 and this place changes dramatically. The island has gone from a sleepy peaceful place with few people, mostly older, to more traffic, more people. Lots of familys, younger people. They tell me "the season" here is Feb and March and this has been very evident this week. From the wine route, beautiful coastline, and Bungy jumping in South Africa, to the temples, stupas, Buddhas, food, beaches, and wonderful people of SE Asia. Sorry, not many photos this time, we got lazy. We can honestly say we've seen something either new, wild, wacky, or inexplicable every single day. But always entertaining. Cambodia has a standard saying (complete with t-shirt), "Same Same, ...

      Going in circles

... like the DeSoto Memorial just off the island. Lovely quiet park that wanders along the Bay with plenty of places to get to the water..... and some interesting oyster shells. Walking to the pier and back has been a way to get my walking in. I can see a time when the drive to collect shells will not need to be answered every day. Didn't think that would ever happen, but I've never had 4 weeks to shell. Maybe driving to the ...

... Florida. And also the “Tarpon Capital of the World” with several fishing tournaments held yearly. Southwest Florida, and apparently Englewood in particular, has a variety of shells for serious shell collectors to find. Many of these shells not only arrive on the beach intact but, in some cases, still inhabited and very much alive. Many shells found on Englewood beaches are the Left Handed Whelks, ...
