6 Adams Avenue, Mount Maunganui Tauranga, Bay of Plenty, North Island, New Zealand, 64-7-575-3805
Now in Mt. Maunganui, a very popular resort town for both Kiwi's and long stay overseas visitors. It was surprisingly busy on the beach in the morning, with lots of joggers etc crusing around. Most seemed to jog a bit then head into one of the many v.nice cafes that line the beachfront. Passed on jogging, but did stop for excellent cappuccino and muffin....
Weather on the Pacific coast was looking poor - gales for next couple of days around Napier. I decided to go to Lake Taupo and fin...
... out of hospital.
But I wanted her to stay with ME (proud and selfish, great).
There were all sorts of weird things going on in town today, or at least I thought they were weird because I did not understand what was happening. There was some kind of festival, and there was a blown-up slide thing for the kids but it was only up for a couple hours. There was a parade but I only caught the very last part of it which consisted of ...
... god I donīt speak it. Itīs again a most charming place-homely and friendly. On the wall are lovely photos on canvas it doesīnt take me long to detect Cologne. The owners are a Kiwi-German couple and try to be remembered in the traveler heart by offering a spotless well equipped place and selling cheap essentials like beer , eggs, muffins and coffee. Thank ...
Mount Maunganui, New Zealand bindannmalwegTach...
Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand silvi1101... and some very good restaurants. After lunch it was down to Hot Water Beach at Hahei - well named because between low and mid-tides you can hire spades and dig in the sand to make your own thermal spa! Unfortunately we were there at the wrong time but there is a pool of water on the beach which was warm enough for a bath! Onwards to the Bay of Plenty and Tauranga, where we stayed for a couple of days with an ...
Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand mertonkiwis... is encouraged though I dont really do aggression. We then do our respective performances and it goes pretty well. The leader of the marae, Uncle Boys, is very complimentary of our performances, our driver tells us that he wasnt as effusive about the last group. The rest of the night is spent on the beach, glad I brought my wind-up torch now.
Maketu, North Island, New Zealand mjkontheroadToday was my last day of chucking spiky Jack Mackerel or his nicer friends blue mackerel and Travelly into boxes at hours in the morning when it is only sensible to be asleep! I survived longer than most people form the hostel (but not the longest - this was a contest I was fine with losing), packing fish at 6am was never really going to work out, I don't like fish, rude people, getting up or going to bed early. I did meet some nice people and some ...
Tauranga, North Island, New Zealand theroad2... it was up to the boys to learn the hakka and the girls to learn the poi (a ball on the end of a string). We then performed it to each other - the boys hakka was really good! A few pieces of the show were absent due tot he circumstance, and so in his attempt to make up for it, Unkle Boy talked to us for about an hour about Maori traditions, in a roundabout way. Slept on mattresses on the floor in the communal hall.
Maketu, New Zealand becpowell... up due to the lack of a rower, but one of the organisers decided to help us with our empty spot. On the way out to the start, I kept splashing the guys behind me, which made me feel kind of sheepish, then something amazing happened; we won the race. We actually won the race by a long shot. The next race we placed second in, a very respectable position given that our opponents were pretty good. The third race was cancelled so we went straight to the finals, making it ...
Tauranga, New Zealand fuzzyhatjon... but there are so many of them that I've grown sedate to their effects. I will be back soon on the Kiwi Experience bus. Got back and found out Justin didn't need me to help him move any more. I offered to help him move up anyway. I stayed at Sarina's last night and slept out on the porch. She has a bed out there and I thought it would be a good idea since it's gotten pretty warm out (hot ...
