... elephants, but with one locked in a giant cage behind which looked like something from Jurassic Park, it was a little upsetting as well as watching their large male elephant playing with a ball in the corner while looking rather bored. We saw some adorable meerkats too all playing and standing up. I also caught a glimpse of a snow leopard which was incredible knowing how hard they can be to locate and photograph in the wild. ... is mainly bars and restaurants with a few souvenir shops. There was a large plaza, a mall over several floors with an open central area, but the shops did not open until 10am. When the shops opened we had a bit of a wander through looking for bargains. We crossed over to the waterfront area which at that point is entirely taken up by a huge convention centre. ... heading back to the East Coast so the time was right.. Sold my Jeep the day before I left...

Unfortunately, San Diego was under siege with wild fires when I left. Drove right through them on Camp Pendleton. Scrambled to get out of San Diego just in time for rush hours all the way to LA. It was the most enjoyable traffic I have ever been in!
