Arrived in Puerto Vallarta on the afternoon of December 30 after a real mixed bag of a ride from Guadalajara. About 200 km of the road is smooth, twisting, fairly new blacktop through increasingly dense, humid, jungle. ... proclamations are pervasive. Taco stands are in rich abundance. We arrived just in time to catch the last of the Dia de los Muertos celebrations, which, unfortunately, were a bit pedestrian. There were some costumed dance performances in the plaza, and a parade, and the standard sepulcher visits, but not the Mardi Gras-type of revelry I had hoped for.
