We set off on Tuesday morning in one of Roberts old cars. Little did we know that the air con in it is terrible, so we melted for 2 and a half hours. When we arrived in the Gold Coast it was like paradise, our hotel is right beside the beach and its roasting hot! It's quite strange having a city right beside the beach but it makes it that bit more …

First night in NT - free roadside camp

A travel blog entry by sergeantdeleeuw on Aug 16, 2014

We finally got away from Camooweal around 1:30 in the afternoon. We would have got away earlier but we attempted to put petrol in the car we found the petrol cap was broken and stuck in the locked position. We ended up leaving the servo and heading about a kilometre back down the road to fill the van up with water. While we were there Jase got his …

We all drove though some of us were deffo better than others, with my driving leaving much to be desired. Josie was a natural skipper and owned it. We did encounter some issues ...

Day 105 After a few Happy New Year calls to the UK, we went downstairs to enjoy the first day of 2015. Ben got carried away making his mango smoothie. Half an hour after starting to chop fruit, he ended up with about three litres of mango, apple and grapefruit thickie. It was somewhere between drink and food.Lucy was struggling with the heat and lay around feeling sorry for herself for most of the morning. When Ben decided to go for a swim, she seized ...

When I pictured the Gold Coast in my mind, it looked a lot like Padre Island, the wild part that you can drive on past the 4x4 only sign, except with better beaches and the occasional surfer enclave. The reality is that it is a whole lot more like South Padre Island, the part with over priced souvenir shops and overpriced restaurants and overpriced tourist traps, except with ...
