Historical Traveler Reviews Boardwalk Beach Resort Condominiums Panama City Beach

      Loved the boardwalk!!!

this condo is the best in panama city. i have two young kids, 3 and 1, and it was perfect for them. it is very geared toward families with the kiddie pool and zero clearance pool. clean, excellent, would go back in a heart beat!!

      Still unknown!

I made reservations in January, 2006 for the Boardwalk Beach Resort for June 12th- 15th. I received my confirmation letter. When we were about 2 hours away (after being on the road for 8 hours) I called to check the status of our room. I was told that we were bumped to the Grandview. We were furious! When we finally arrived we were told that the owner of the room had come to stay and we had to go to a different facility. I explained to them that the main reason that I have booked with them was for their pool facilities for small kids. They did give us passes to use their pool, but we never did. Needless to say I will never consider this place again. You can get more info about the Grandview from my review of them.

      Just what we expected!

We stayed at the boardwalkresort the end of May 2006 and were very happy with the resort and room. The room was clean and the maid service was great. All the staff was friendly and the pool was clean & heated. We also saw them remove guests from the pool that came the hotel next door & others without the arm bands. There was never a wait for elevators and the fitness center was great. We will definately be back again.

I feel that I should first correct some misinformation that is in this condo's marketing publications. Unlike what is stated in the brochure, this condo does not sit on a private beach. I'm not sure any of the beach front in PCB can be considered private. Anyone can (and do) set up on this beach regardless of where they stay. Also, the condo tries to sell that the property is for guests only, and they do make you wear these dopey wrist bands. Problem is, I never saw this enforced during my stay. I witnessed people who were not guests being served at the tiki bar and taking advantage of the pool facilities. Also, the pool is not heated like the publications state.

We stayed in an efficiency unit and the appointments were strictly pedestrian. Much like what you would see in a run of the mill business motel like a Baymont. Also, if you book an efficiency be aware that they could you set you up on the east side where you will get a nice view of the construction site. In another year, there won't be any view at all from these units.

To its credit, the common areas of this condo are impressive. It has one of the best gym and swimming pool facilities that I have seen. And the tile in the foyer is beautiful, even if it does only last a couple years. But the general apathy and lack of knowledge of the staff coupled with underwhelming room facilities places this condo resort in the "wanna-be" category.

      No complaints here!

Brand new! Awesome pool area, tiki bar, served food. Condos were very spacious. The master bedroom and bathroom were awesome. I was all around impressed. Balconies overlooked the pool, along with the beach. Can't go wrong here but it is pricey!

Great resort -- cold pools & loud construction!

Condo we rented for the week was great!

Kiddie pool area was lots of fun if the sun was out. Water in it was very cold, not heated. Kids love the spray gun, water jets, etc.

The big pool was freezing! It is supposedly heated, but can't be. They need to heat it! The ocean water was warmer than the pool. We paid over $1200 for a week and froze trying to use the pool. We were very disappointed about this.

Construction at the 2 nd Boardwalk highrise right next door was loud off on and all week. I'd get a condo on the opposite side of the building away from any construction.

Would go back to PCB, and stay here -- beautiful beaches and awesome soft white sand!!!!

      Not what we expected

We were told by a reservation clerk that the pool is heated, and reafirmed this on the web page. A heated pool is of course a biggie with kids along, when the ocean is to cold to swim in. The pool was beautiful but unheated. The kid went anyway, for about 10 whole minutes in three days, and brought home a nice cold. Other than that, this is a wonderful facility (the condo's). Heat the pool to a least body temp through May 1, and we will be back.

      Absolutely wonderful!!

We stayed at the Boardwalk for a week last August, and are about to go back again for another week long stay. To clarify, we stayed in the Boardwalk condos, not the hotel next door. And, we could not have been happier with our experience there.

The staff at the front desk was warm and welcoming, and the lobby itself was beautiful. Parking was convienient, and the security guard made us feel safe. Once we arrived at our condo, we realized we had found a gem. The 2 bedroom condo was absolutely gorgeous, with luxurious furnishings and a nice layout. The kitchen was well equipped and modern. Both bedrooms were lovely and comfortable, with lavish decor. Each had a TV as well. The bathrooms were very nice as well, ours having a huge garden tub. It took forever to fill up! Everything was clean and fresh, with plenty of towels for our use. Within an hour of arriving, we received a phone call from the staff to welcome us and make sure everything was to our liking. We felt pampered. Our time spent in the condo was nothing but enjoyable and relaxing. Daily maid service was a nice asset.

Once we decided to venture down to the pool, we were impressed all over again. The pool area is clean and well maintained, with nice restrooms and easy beach access. We loved the "beach-like" pool entry, with a gradual slope which makes it perfect for young children. The hot tubs were nice and clean as well. To top things off, there is a nice bar and grill next to the pool with fun and friendly wait staff. The food was good, but a bit pricey, as one would expect. Security was present, but not overbearing. There is also a kids' club with activities for children.

In closing, we would highly recommend this resort to anyone. We were very happy with everything from beginning to end. A+!!

Okay Resort, good for Spring Breakers, but you can do better..

I just got back from this resort yesterday, was staying there for Spring Break, and it was an okay experience. It is an older hotel (I would say built in the 60s or early 70s, has that decor) but looks like it has been kept up fairly well.

First though for the advantages, this resort has a great location, especially for Spring Breakers. It is right on the beach, has a lot of beach view rooms (unlike other hotels where the only beach view rooms are suites) and is close to the Superclubs (La Vela and Spinnaker). The hotel does have a wristband policy, but it is very lax. The hotel has exterior corridors and there is no problem getting people in who are not staying at the hotel. Security is pretty lax so everything pretty much goes (even though we did hear one group who got evicted). Security is there but it is not a consistent presense. Basically, if you will be there from mid-February to the end of March on a family trip and want a quiet hotel, get a condo, this is not it. Also though, there is a kitchen area in all the rooms, the condo type rooms have their own, while the standard rooms you share it with the other person. Our door was open, but I believe you may have to pay extra, not real sure about it. Other things, no weight room area, pool area is nice but a little small for a hotel this size, did not use it so I don't know about it being hot or cold. Hotel also has a hot tub. There is also a nice sun deck area.

However there are several complaints that I have as well. First of all our room only got cleaned every three days, and twice we had to get new towels ourselves because our maid never gave us towels. Second thing was that some of the workers there were not very helpful. The first night I was there I lost my ID (a big deal since it would've ruined my Spring Break if I had lost it) and when I go to the desk, the manager wouldn't even bother to look for it, he just said NO and went away. I went back later to a lady and she was nice and helpful. She looked and sure enough, they had my ID.

The staff was just hit and miss, a few were very nice, but some others were unhelpful or flat out rude. I also had issues with my room key, which malfunctioned three times during my 4 night stay, others had similar problems. Also during Spring Break, check out time is 8 a.m., which is flat out ridiculous. I've never been to a hotel, even during Spring Break, that made you get out before 10 a.m. Also remember that you must have an inspection, so you pretty much have to get up at 6 - 6:30 a.m., even if you aren't leaving for a while. There are also very limited amenities for a beachside hotel, no sundries shop and no real place to eat. Parking is a little bit of a chore, but to be expected.

The rooms themselves are pretty nice, good selection of cable TV, nice beds, small but decent bathroom area, basically your typical hotel room. Great views though for beach front rooms, and condo/suite rooms have private balconies. In our room, everything worked fine and was in decently good condition.

Overall this is a decent hotel, but I can see the reasons it had vacancies. If you are just looking for a place to crash and get a good rate, this is a good hotel. However I would suggest for other people and even Spring Breakers, you can easily get a far nicer hotel with more amenities for the same price. I thought some of the staff could've been nicer as well. If I got a really good rate I would stay here again, but it just really isn't anything that special.

      Greatest place on PCB

WOW! Very impressive! This hotel pays attention to detail like none I've ever stayed at. The pool area is unbelievable!! The bar and grill had great drinks and burgers. At $100 a night, this is the best place we have ever stayed! Everything is brand new, and CLEAN. We loved the 24-hour gate attendant. No one got in the place without a tag in their car window.

We also loved the fact that guests had to wear arm bands. This was to keep the "less desirable" guests from the HOJO next door out of their facilities. We were very dissappointed in PCB, but if we ever go back, we will, without a doubt, be staying at Boardwalk Condos.

It was hard trying to leave because as soon as someone heard our accents they always wanted to know where we were from and all seemed impressed with our drive across country.Things really fell apart when the barmaid shouted the bar with something she called Liquid Marijuana. Thats all i've got to say on that but a good night was had by all.
